Vulvar Granular Cell Tumor

January, 2021

This is a 53-year-old woman who presented with an itching vulvar tumor. A 3 cm, white, fibrous nodule was resected. Histologically, an eosinophilic, granular lesion was identified which was positive for CD68 and S100. Granular cell tumor is a rare, benign, soft tissue tumor with neural differentiation involving many sites including the head, trunk, organs and peripheral tissues. It is composed of large cells with eosinophilic, granular cytoplasm. Immunohistochemistry is S100+, SOX10+, CD68+. The age range is 30 to 50 years with a 5:4 female predominance. The lesions are benign, asymptomatic, average 1-2 cm and are slow growing. Treatment is excision. Differential diagnosis includes reactive histiocytic lesions, alveolar soft part sarcoma, rhabdomyoma and hibernoma..
