PETROGLYPH FNA CLINIC

FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION

AFTER THE TEST

No medical procedure is without risk but complications due to FNA are rare. Minor complications may include bleeding into the nodule and bruising of the skin overlying the nodule. These complications may result in a larger nodule than what was initailly presented at the Clinic as well as slight tenderness at the site. Both of these resolve on their own and can be relieved by an ice pack.

Rarely, infection may occur. A spot Band-Aid is placed over the biopsy site upon completion of the FNA and should remain in place for the duration of the day. It is advisable to limit your activity (no power work-out, no marathon run). A general rule of thumb is not to lift anything heavier than a gallon milk for the remainder of the day. By the evening you can bathe/shower. Men should wait until the following day to shave. Aftercare instructions will be provided.
